Type Specimen Poster: Avenir

Purpose: The purpose of this project was to explore different typefaces and learn more about typography. We followed the structure of different type specimen posters and were assigned to create our own. Through this exploration we were supposed to focus on the forms, details, and mood set by the typeface, and the sans-serif font, Avenir, which I used for this project, possessed flowing, elegant, yet simple shapes which were reminiscent of the modernist movement of design, as well as the typeface, Futura.

Process: For this project I used Adobe Illustrator because it has a very useful typography tool as well as its ability to manipulate said type. This allowed me to change the size, color, and branch off with the different shapes in the typeface. The tool was used in several ways: to create body text, to create the title with bold font, and to create the name in medium font.  I also used the shape and pen tool to create the changes in color and the background.

Color Theory: The colors I used are monochromatic in that it uses a single color itself, but also the base colors of that, black and white. This creates interesting contrast as well as an acceptation on the white and turquoise.
