A short unexpected serie to be continued next winter.

Last December, while photographing new projects I had the pleasure to assist for a few days at some big waves surfing in Nazaré, Portugal with some of the top big wave riders in the world.
Big waves surf is something very different from usual surf, you dont' and you can't do any radical manouver. You have to drop, ride the wave and go back home safe.

I believe that, is their ability to go trought extremely heavy and dangerous situations that make the difference between them and a normal pro surfer. They can be beaten by huge waves and survive.

That's where i decided to focalize, creating "sport/romantic" images, strongly related to the idea of being so small in front of the vastity forces of  nature.
I purposely wanted to leave a bit of mystery on these images, leave the spectator with some dubts, "where the surfer has gone?, is he still alive? etc" but... if you wonder what happen to them... they are all alive, some of them  had to go to hospital but at the end, ..all fine.
