William Schuiling's profile

Chesapeake Hospice Offers Special Services for Veterans

Throughout his 30 years as owner and chairman of Brown Automotive Group, Ltd., William E. Schuiling has opened dealerships throughout Virginia and Maryland and engaged deeply with those communities. William Schuiling’s generous support is evident at Brown’s Toyota of Glen Burnie, which has donated to many local groups, including Hospice of the Chesapeake, an organization that supports the emotional and physical needs of end-of-life patients and their families.

Hospice of the Chesapeake incorporates elements of a program called We Honor Veterans in order to better serve patients who served in the armed forces. Created by the Hospice-Veteran Partnership, the program offers a wide range of services for the thousands of veterans that die every year. With a focus on “respectful inquiry, compassionate listening, and grateful acknowledgement,” the program helps connect veterans and civilians. A documentary project includes veterans sharing their stories with a film crew of high school students, while a project called “Operation Honor” asks high school students to write letters of gratitude to veterans, thanking them for their service. Other initiatives connect veteran volunteers with veteran patients, allowing them to relate to one another in a unique way.
