The DVD
This was also a class assignment where I could choose any movie and use pictures from the internet to compose a front, back, and spine of a DVD. I chose The Hunger Games Mockingjay Part I because it had high resolution images online. Plus I enjoyed the movie, especially the books.

The Concept
After researching the past Mockingjay DVD covers, there was always Katnis (main character) with fire all around her. Honestly, I think that’s cheesy. I wanted to show her looking to the future, dominating the Capitol, and of course the love triangle with Peeta & Gale.
The Compositing
I put all the images I have together using Photoshop. First I laid them out considering their resolution and image size. I isolated the individual images using layer masking. Then overlapped them in the composition I wanted using various opacities and blend modes.

The Back Cover
With the back I wanted to keep the look very simple and typical to other DVD’s. This layout has been used many times. I made sure that the margins stayed consistent. This would help the person reading it be able to scan it easily to get the quick information. The images help describe the movie and give the sense that it’s an film with Katnis being the heroin.
