Summary

Recruiting the best and brightest employees is an ongoing initiative for Stryker, a global leader in medical technology with 17,000 employees in 120 countries. And with a careers site that was struggling to generate quality leads, Stryker needed a new approach. Manning partnered with PR firm Gibbs and Soell to develop and implement a new, more effective strategy.

Our strategy centered on looking at the online application process from a new perspective: that of the job seeker. It quickly became apparent that there was no one-size-fits-all solution for applicants with diverse needs and expecations. So we set out to build a user experience that could serve applicants according to state of employment, skill level, geographic location and other factors.

Departing from the previous site design which had derived from the company's org chart, we completely revamped information architecture to build navigation around persona use-cases and offered content and functionality specific to each group. For the first time, users could search by openings based on their interests, location or even benefits packages. User profiles gave job seekers new resources such as the ability to manage applications, set up job alerts or even receive personally-tailored career recommendations.

The new website has proved to be a valuable resource to job applicants and recruiters. Job seekers have been encouraged by the breadth of information that is available to learn not just about job titles, but about what it's like to join the Stryker team. And recruiters have been encouraged by the effect of the approachable application process which has led to an increase in both number and quality of applications.
