Current Art - Paper Cuts

Current Art: Paper Cuts
My artwork allows me to visually explore the relationship between our culture and the natural world. I often use beautiful women or little girls as the subject for dark narratives of ecocide (destruction of the environment.) These ironic bad-guys represent how even the naive and innocent can unknowingly help to destroy the planet, bit by bit. In many works there is a struggle, back and forth, between humans and nature. Other works illustrate people emerging with nature, expressing my hope for the symbiosis between humans and the Earth.

I create paper cuts because the medium is minimal, and yet with endless possibilities. The fragility of the paper speaks for the fragility of the subject matter. The intricate cuts and shadows encourage the viewer to look closer and longer, so that they make not only see the art, but experience its substance.

I have been creating paper cuts for over a year now. Paper is so simple and minimal, yet endless with possibilities.
