The New Irani Café, Ahmedabad

Serving the city of Ahmedabad for the last 70 years, The New Irani Restaurant  is a part of rich cultural history of the Old city and has a unique vintage aura around it which along with its delectable dishes at low prices has created a long list of loyal fan following. This bustling cafe has seen 7 generations of workforce which successfully runs the cafe for at least 18 hours a day. Most of the customers get to see only the serving area whereas the building houses another 3 floors where more than 20 workers live and work simultaneously in 3 shifts of 6 hours each.
This photo series is an attempt to look into the lives of these workers who have relocated from a small village in Kishanganj, Bihar to this old cafe and runs it successfully.
