Frankenstein Book Layout

Book Layout & Cover Design
an exploration in typographic hierarchy, grid, and margins

As I designed this book layout for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein I used typographic texture, use of a grid, hierarchy, and pacing to create readable and interesting pages.

Through the experimentation of conceptual typography, design choices became more deliberate and thoughtful. My goal was to express themes and symbols from Mary Shelley's world by my use of certain fonts, layouts, and aesthetic decisions.
The text spreads fill a majority of a book and is made up of body copy, margins, page numbers, and headers/footers. When creating a layout, it was critical to consider margins, text, headers, page numbers, chapter headings, and typeface choices. The relationships between these elements need to create unity throughout the layout.
