RELIGIOUS BUILDING AND WATER COLLECTION IN TANAF, SENEGAL

For many cultures, especially  those where water scarcity was a daily issue, faith and water preservation were deeply linked, being both at the base of life. Our project Drop of Hope focuses on the connection between spiritual practice and water harvesting in a sacred and symbolic architecture.

The access to the main ambients is through a courtyard surrounded by arcades, a community space, shaded by vertical textile stripes.The core of the complex is a 9 meters high tower,working as a fog harvesting system.Around the tower, three circular ambients:the main hall for ceremonies, a smaller ambient and the second hall.This organic shaped building  gives continuity to the space and symbolizes a free of edges cohexistence between the different cultures of Tanaf Valley.
