These images were taken at my grandfather's land in Mississippi. Parts of this land have been in my family for generations, while others have been added more recently. As a child, I would visit 'the farm' almost every weekend. Now it is a place full of memories and feelings of nostalgia, as well as a place to escape. This is what drew me to take these photographs.
While shooting, I look for interesting compositions and textures. I then find similarities between images and blend them together. This blending is reminiscent of the way we make memories and experience life. Rarely do I have a memory or experience that is just a snapshot. Instead, memories are usually complex with multiple moments that get layered together. This is what I want to happen with these photographs.
Because of how real the original photographs are, I find it interesting how abstract the final images become. I hope this provokes wonder and mystery. This contrast relates to the concrete world we live in and the abstract way we think and remember.
