Social Housing Amsterdam East
Renovation of 33 social housing apartments in a 19th-century neighborhood in Amsterdam East.
Restoring the original character
The aim was to restore the original architectural character. This included a replacement of the balconies and railing, roof and dormers and all doors and window frames. Because a lot of image-defining elements where replaced during the 20th century, we needed to study the original blueprints.
Another aim was to modernize the interiors. This included a renovation of the construction and foundation and a redistribution of the apartments over the complex. By merging the 55 original units together, both vertically and horizontally, we created a large variety of new layouts according the contemporary standards.
