Smeriglio supports several local charitable groups and serves on the board of directors of the Greenwich Old Timers Athletic Association

In its efforts to support the athletic and academic pursuits of local youth, the Greenwich Old Timers Athletic Association raises funds for youth sports programs and college scholarships. Since 1966, the organization has operated a scholarship program that has helped over 100 outstanding Greenwich high school student-athletes attend college.

Originally offering a one-time $500 grant, the program has grown significantly over the years and now provides four-year renewable grants of $2,000. In 2016, the Old Timers awarded need-based scholarships totaling $29,500. Including the 2016 grants, the Association has raised more than $1.4 million over the years to fund scholarships and youth athletic programs.
