Après plusieurs discussions avec un Marrackchis sur sa manière de vivre et sa culture, je me suis demandé comment rendre palpables ces longs échanges. Je me suis donc intéressée à l’artisanat marocain ainsi qu’à l’architecture, aux ornements et à la religion, de grands éléments typiques et très importants dans la culture maghrébine.
Les moucharabiehs équivalent plus ou moins aux paravents occidentaux. Ils servent à dérober les femmes du regard des hommes dans les demeures. De plus ils laissent passer l’air tout en nous préservant des ardeurs du soleil. Le tout à aussi un aspect ornemental non négligeable. J’ai créé un moucharabieh en bois clair, matériau très important dans la culture marocaine. Le choix du motif est simple, un verset du Coran écrit en coufique géométrique, un des premiers styles calligraphiques de l’islam en Irak. J’ai ainsi tenté de mêler architecture, religion, ornement et artisanat dans un tout. L’objet se porte comme un casque sous lequel on se sent à la fois protégé de l'extérieur, mais nous permet aussi de voir sans pour autant être clairement vu.

After several discussions with a Marrakechis about his way of life and his culture, I asked myself how to make palpable these long exchanges. So, I was interested in Moroccan craftsmanship, architecture, ornaments and religion, typical and very important elements in the Maghreb culture. Moucharabiehs are more or less equivalent to western folding-screens.
They serve to steal women from the eyes of men in their mansions. Moreover, they allow the air to pass through while preserving us from the heat of the sun. The whole also has a non-negligible ornamental aspect. I created a wooden moucharabieh, a very important material in Moroccan culture. The choice of the pattern is simple, a verse of the Koran written in geometric kufic, one of the first calligraphic styles of Islam in Iraq. I have thus tried to mix architecture, religion, ornament and craftsmanship into a whole. The object is worn as a helmet under which we feel protected from the outside, but also allows us to see, without being clearly seen. (This project is ongoing and will be subsequently included in a facility)
