Case Study: Redesign of flyers

Redesign of flyers for Mahmood Habib Masjid and Islamic Center.

MHMIC is a non-profit religious institute based in Hyderabad. The Institute conducts a brief lecture before the Friday prayer, every week.

In order to spread the word for the same, they release flyers periodically for print and social media.

I work pro-bono as a visual designer here.
This is how we made flyers.

They lacked a concise design system and readability was an issue. There was a lot of scope for improvement.

I put myself in the place of someone who would look at this and take in information about the Juma Khutba(Lecture). What were their expectations when they came looking for information?
What did I learn?

It is vital in any form of design, to articulate your design decisions. Design is NOT random. Things don't just fall into place. There is a reason for everything in life and there is a reason for everything in design as well.

The ability to ask questions and explain one's design will only happen if the designer is willing to put him/herself in the place of the user and empathise with him/her.

When you ask the right questions, everything does indeed fall in place. The result of me asking the right questions here was that I understood the information hierarchy between different elements. I understood what text needed to be made bold and what elements were to be chunked together. The result was this:
Conclusion: Good Design is Intentional.
