El proyecto/The project
La Biblioteca Nacional de la República Argentina no es cualquier archivo bibliográfico: es la biblioteca más importante del país. Lleva el nombre de su fundador, Mariano Moreno, político argentino que promovió la Revolución de Mayo y ejerció el cargo de secretario en la Primera Junta de Gobierno en 1810, año de su creación.

En 1962, la tríada de arquitectos Clorindo Testa, Francisco Bullrich y Alicia Cazzaniga ganó el concurso para la construcción de una nueva sede de la Biblioteca. Desde que fue inaugurado en 1992, el edificio de la calle Agüero es la única sede, y parte fundamental del patrimonio cultural de la institución.

El año pasado la Biblioteca llamó a concurso para diseñar su nuevo logotipo. La convocatoria reunió más de 750 propuestas, de entre las cuales la nuestra fue elegida como ganadora por el jurado y las autoridades de la institución.

The Argentine Republic National Library is not an ordinary bibliographic archive: it is the most significant library in the country.

It was named after its founder: Mariano Moreno, an Argentinean politician who abetted the May Revolution and served as Secretary to the Primera Junta de Gobierno in the course of 1810.

In 1962, a triad of architects composed by Clorindo Testa, Francisco Bullrich and Alicia Cazzaniga contested and won the construction of the new library headquarters. Open since 1992, the building located on Agüero street operates today as the intitution's main office and is a signifigant asset in its cultural heritage.

Last year, the library announced a contest to find a new logotype. The result of this call was the gathering of over 750 proposals, from among which this one was selected by the jury to be worthy of the first prize.

Branding

Un signo que representara fielmente a la Biblioteca tenía que nacer de una comprensión profunda de su valor en la cultura argentina. Por eso, la identidad gráfica se construyó a partir de tres conceptos principales:

. La identidad de la Biblioteca, su historia y sus particularidades, lo que la diferencia de otras instituciones con la misma función. Esto se condensa en la figura de su fundador, Mariano Moreno.
. Su función de organizar, archivar y recopilar información para entender y estudiar el mundo que nos rodea.
. El objeto que da sentido al hacer de la Biblioteca, que contiene el material de lectura. Los volúmenes donde se almacena la información: los libros.

A sign that represented the National Library faithfully had to come from a profound comprehension of its relevance within the Argentine culture. Keeping that in mind, we built a graphic identity around three core ideas:

. The identity of the Library, its history and singularities, what makes it stand out compared to similar institutions.

. Its function: organizing, storaging and compiling information to help us understand the world around us.

. The object around which the library revolves. The volumes where the data lives: books.

Colaterales/Collaterals

Desarrollamos piezas institucionales -además de la papelería- funcionales no sólo como presencia de marca, sino también a las actividades de los usuarios de la biblioteca.

Collateral brand materials were developed -in addition to stationery-, which work not only as brand prescence, but also as useful companions to the visitors in their daily activities at the library.

Arquigrafía/Architectural graphics

El sistema gráfico incluye el diseño de las exposiciones y talleres que dicta la Biblioteca y el desarrollo de gráfica institucional y señalética para el edificio de la sede.

The graphic system includes the design of expositions and workshops carried out by the National Library and the development of architectural graphics and signage to be applied in the library's headquarters building.
