A Spanish publisher commissioned me to make 26 illustrations for the initial letters of each chapter of the novel Don Quixote of La Mancha by Miguel de Cervantes, which were to be published in a luxury edition with the original Doré illustrations.
The challenge of accompanying the great master of the illustration was to make letters slightly inspired by the text of each chapter but considering that they were to be repeated throughout the book and could not repeat the themes and scenes illustrated by Doré.
I was inspired by illustrations and engravings from the 18th and 19th centuries and I have consulted the extensive databases of illustrators who over 500 years have illustrated this novel.
This is part of the result and a test of the publication that will come out next month to the market.
