Located on an adjacent site to the Butaro Hospital, Butaro Doctors’ Housing attracts healthcare professionals, improves physician retention, lifts the quality of care, and contributes to the Ministry of Health’s goal of developing the Butaro Hospital as an exemplary teaching hospital and a model for holistic rural across the East Africa.

The style of the homes mimicked the well-loved volcanic stone masonry employed by MASS in the Butaro District Hospital, and afforded each doctor the independence of her own home while granting her a
community of nearby medical fellows just over the hill.
