I was given the opportunity to design a poster promoting the Pioneer Day Parade in Chico, CA, as well as later putting together the program. 

I started by drawing the scene of the kids dressed for their own, make-believe parade.

I wanted the background to have a hand-drawn quality, going for a childlike style.

After seeing the initial draft, my client asked me to swap the water pistol out for something else, on the assumptions that someone in the public may be offended by the toy 'gun'. I quickly edited it to show him holding a hot dog. Below is the version that the public got to see.
