For this class project the goal was to create a photographic font using real world objects. While my finished product is not my best work, I did learn quite a bit working on the project.
My initial step was to view what others had done with similar projects. Looking through Pinterest and Dribbble I found a dozen examples of extremely creative and beautiful pieces. I realized once again just how clever designers can be!
Unfortunately my brain was not generating any creative ideas, so with the time allotted I went with utilizing Lego bricks to construct the glyphs.
I sat down with my kids and rummaged through our massive box of Legos looking for matching colors. Thankfully we're all a little OCD, so they understood my need to have matching pieces...at least for each individual glyph.
Once the proof of concept was created using real Legos, I decided to iterate using the Lego Digital Creation software to iterate through ideas.
After creating three different possible font faces (exploring curves and how the stems interact with each other) I settled on one and created a nice garden theme background. Because why not?! I always get a little carried away with Legos!
