    Waikiki Natatorium
Waikiki Natatorium
A part of Hawaii history worth saving
Today the Waikiki Natatorium War Memorial, sits closed off and in a worsening state of disrepair. However, at one time this beautiful public facility was a source of pride in Hawaii. First opened in 1921, the waterfront olympic-sized pool is filled with ocean water and enjoys a breath taking view of Waikiki. In addition to teaching thousands of local children how to swim each year, this ocean pool was where famous waterman Duke Kahanamoku broke numerous world swimming records. For this project, I was approached by a non profit group interested in restoring the monument.

The goal was to create a rallying slogan around the Duke's name in the hopes of drumming up support.
Since there were no existing photos of the Waikiki Natatorium from this angle, I had to envision the linear perspective based off a combination of aerial and sea level photography. Drawing in perspective is always a fun challenge for me and it takes me back to the basics!
