Research on Urban Structure of Dorćol, Belgrade

A research of urban structure of one of oldest parts of Belgrade – Dorćol.
The idea was to layer all components which make Dorćol what it is today and from that find how could that historical part of Belgrade be improved. Dorćol is one of the most visited parts of the city, because of its rich history, great location and a specific atmosphere that one gets while walking the streets centuries old.

- Starting from historical structure (pic. 1), there are countless local and national landmarks to be mentioned – from the little places, such as Čukur fountain, in memory of a boy killed during the Osman invasion on Serbia, to bigger structures,  such as the Kalemegdan Fortress,  The Jewish Museum, The Student’s Park and others.

- The other step is to assess the bio-ecological characteristics and the level of pollution on Dorćol (pic. 2). Different maps show different influences – topography, winds, green infrastructure, air pollution and particles dispersal, noise pollution and the sunlight intensity on the streets during the day.

- The next three sheets include the physical structure of the location, as well as much detailed assessment of states of different buildings, streets  and green infrastructure, following the density of buildings, population density, height and the state of those objects. All of these help us understand the community and its significance, and with that we can see clearly which parts are populated the most by residents, as well as tourists and thus how we can make that extremely important part of Belgrade more accessible to all.
