By The Light of The Ghetto Moon - The Video Installation
By The Light of The Ghetto Moon is a Spoken Word piece inspired by a neighbor who ran in and out of the house all night, to deliver drugs to his customers. The incessant activity kept me awake at night. From where I lay, I had a perfect view of the moon ...The Ghetto Moon.
The spoken word piece takes the viewer through a series of scenarios, most of which have all come a little too close to home, known to unfold By The Light of The Ghetto Moon.
To take this piece to the next level, I chose images from Google Images, that would dramatically illustrate what was spoken. With the help of up and coming Film Maker, Casey Cann, the images were animated for more drama.
This installation made its debut in a dim closet in MassArt's North Building, in room 181. The installation received favorable reviews!
For subsequent exhibitions, the visual appearance underwent some small changes that made a significant difference.
The viewer experienced the animation through an old window, complete with rotten wood and paint chips, but decent window treatments. The old window represents urban decay. The decent curtains, and the dog, represent the safety of being indoors, whether actual or perceived.
The secrets behind the scenes!
By The Light of The Ghetto Moon was on exhibit April 2016, at the Thomas Young Gallery in South Boston, Massachusetts.
