I was given the freedom to design anything for the outdoors/camping world. After wandering through places like REI, and Bass Pro Shop, I came across a basic, necessary yet fairly primitive tool, the flint and steel survival tool. I purchased one and anxiously drove home thinking, this product is the way it is because it works, what could I possibly do to improve it? After spending about 20 minutes, I realized that flint and steel is an art, a talent that I do not possess. If my survival depended on creating fire via this 'tool', it would be my demise. As it turns out, the trick behind using flint and steel is the angle of the scraper and the speed of it. I felt like this whole process could be simplified and let's be honest, foolproof. I also wanted it to serve more than one purpose because camping is all about packing light, why double up on objects when one can do the job of two?
