Part of the design direction for Pi was to maintain a sense of culture with a modern approach. The heritage of the restaurant originates from Beirut, Lebanon where the client and his family are from so It was important to research the culture and find motifs that were visual signatures of everyday life back home. One such motif were the large number of decaying window shutters on nearly every building for miles. For Pi, different window shutters of all sizes painted different hues of turquoise designed to have an aged look align the walls of the first floor to bring a sense of home.
The existing fireplace which has been in the space for decades proved to be a vital source of design direction and color theme.
