The Ephemeral Machine: Visual Development

An animated short film.
Coming 2018.
Our world is gone.
Their world is about to suffer the same fate.
What happened to everything?
The Ant Queen and her congress rule over all members of the colony. Newspapers and news-feeds form public opinion: ants can only read, hear and view things that the media feed them. The media and congress prioritize keeping ants happy at the expense of truth. In the underground, there are many ants who experience atrocities inflicted upon them from the colony's greedy leaders, but all other citizens are unaware of this reality. After a long period, the shroud that hid havoc deep below the ground finally disappears, releasing members of the underground and their harsh realities are exposed to all citizens. Destruction and control begins to crawl throughout the colony and a clear line is drawn between members of society: some ants realize they were drowning in a sea of irrelevance, worshipping false idols and were ignorant of their common Ant, while the others were comfortable with how the cogs of society were functioning and want to go back to how things were. The colony is torn-up in half...

Civil war breaks loose.
Odysseus escapes everything and
begins his voyage home.
However, little does he realize how far the destruction has spread in the world...
This ant grew up alongside his family in an abandoned pier town built by humans, long after they disappeared from the world. Odysseus fondly remembers the carnival from his childhood, which sits on the pier's edge watching over the sea. Odysseus escapes the war by stealing a plane and flies back home; the world is too much for Odysseus.
Coming Early 2018.
An animated short film of epic proportions.
The Ephemeral Machine will be a CGI animated short film with a universe set in the year 2118. It explores themes of isolation through the film's main character Odysseus, the effects of societal control through media, pop culture and technology, and the relationship between oneself and the universe ("as above, so below").

Inspired by films from Studio Ghibli, The Ephemeral Machine'smain goal is to create a universe with an engaging story. While it's narrative is partially a criticism to our society and the current state of our world, The Ephemeral Machine largely focuses on Odysseus and his place in a world of chaos.
