In 1963  executive committee of city decided to build trolley bus depot in Šanciai. 1965 december 31 , 8 trolley bus began carrying passengers along the route "Panemunė- Gimnazijos st."

In 1991 trolley bus began running Krėvės st. In 1997 year opened a second depot with 175 seats in Eiguliai. In 1998 the latest new trolley buses Škoda 14 Tr were bought.

In 2004 Neris st., Varnių and Nuokalnės st. the catenary lines were built. In 2006-2007 the city has reached 42 new trolley buses Solaris Trollino 12AC.
