Cien años de soledad (one hundred years of solitude) is a novel by Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez and one of the most significant works of Latin American literature.
It took me a while to finally read this famous piece of writing, but by the time I finished it, the narrative remained playing in my head for several days. At that time I was still experimenting with the Wacom Intuos and started sketching some small illustrations inspired by the story. I later decided to turn them into a book cover, giving it a more contemporary version and making the classic a bit more appealing for a younger generation. None of the Brazilian version covers really stand out to me, so I thought I could try and develop my own.

The illustrations show some of the visual elements from the story. I also tried to represent Macondo's isolation through the composition of some shapes, with blue being the Colombian town founded by the riverside and the rest expressing the unknown outside world, especially during the solitary early years and the near-abandoned state at the end.
