Bialowieża Forest is a unique ecosystem, the last European lowland natural forest, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In the year 2016 the Minister of Environment allowed to increase timber extraction in the forest under the pretext of fighting beetles. According to scientists and ecologists, the unique ecosystem will be destroyed and replaced with industrial plantings.
In the endangered areas, bark prints were collected. These ceramic castings are a kind of posthumous mask of the forest, which is no longer there.
