I was approached to do an illustration of an personal essay by the lead writer for WWE in the Bleacher Report, Ryan Dilbert. The essay is about how he views female wrestlers as role models for his daughters, in a way that it doesn't matter what they decide to pursue in their life, wrestling or not, they should do it with the same determination these women did to be where they are now.
My approach was to portrait them with their sight on something else than their rival, because even if their match was the spark of the idea for the article, their focus is in a goal further than the person in front of them.
As a background I used blue due that's the main color of the show, but I toned it down for a more feminine touch.  And to give it deepness, I added a texture of the cage which is featured in the match the article is about.
Lastly, you have the silhouette of a little girl looking and pointing these two larger than life figures. Because when you are a kid, it doesn't matter how really tall they are, if you admire someone they will always look huge to you.
You can read the article here.  As always feedback is always welcome!
