Intro.
We would like to present our master thesis project "Ales". It is done in Politecnico di Milano, master in yacht design course. Ales (ancient Greek word meaning "the seas") is an one-off 19m cruiser type sail yacht. It is designed for 2 co-owners focused on joyful life at sea and easier sailing experience.

Design Process
From studies of hydrostatics of hull to rigging equipment selection, the whole design process has been carried out in a feasible method. Above is the brief sequence of it.
Exterior Design
Profile View : Reverse sheerline, rollbar and elongated bowsprit create a sensual silhouette.
Drone View Forward

Transom : A pair of hydraulic pistons is used to open a large beach club / tender garage. Extra storage is placed on the floor of beachclub to store a ramp and a coffee table. Turbojet 285 model from William Jet Tenders fits inside the boat.
Helm : Sailing equipment is arranged aft deck within range of motion for efficient sailing experience. Rope storage is installed next to each side of winches to keep the deck clean.
Exterior Dining Area : Wine cellar and extra cabinet is located under the table to offer an immediate access to drinks and cutlery without going downstairs. Custom-built wine cellar safely stores wines in nautical conditions. Dining table can be folded down when not in use.
More Sunlight Inside : Retractable sunroof lays on top of the superstructure to let in more sunlight and sea breeze.
Comfy Sunbathing : 2:1 Self tacker jib system keeps the foredeck clean. Built-in sun bed lays flush with deck when not in use, It folds up in 3 mobile sections when sunbathing.
Interior Design
Main Saloon : Elliptical space creates comfortable and social vibe. Longitudinal windows from the side and a wide glass ceiling introduces natural light inside the space.
Aft Cabin : Wide use of mirror on the ceiling and on doors create more spacious sensation. Harmonised use of White / black / light oak makes modern and luxurious interior.
Forward Cabin
Specification
Sail plan has also been thought out for the intent of joyful life at sea and easier sailing experience. Total sail area is smaller compared to other 60 footer sail yachts in the market (200m2 average). It provides comfort with less heeling angle.
Accomplishment
This project has won the 1st place in the 2nd edition of 2016 AS.PRO.NA.DI Diporthesis award in sail yacht design category.
