"Numaish"- Urban interventions in public space
Apri - May 2015
A collaboration with Ar. Khadija-tul-kubra
The word Kutubkhana literally means a space for books. This was designed in collaboration with Ar. Khadija-tul kubra as a Modular reading pavilion. Set up at frere hall (a heritage building and a public park) along with several other spatial installations and artefacts, the kutubkhana is meant to give importance to reading and literary culture, the exhibit numaish was conducted by a group of social activists under the umbrella of "l AM Karachi" in collaboration with Habib university. The aim was to revitalize and bring art and design into an everyday space and therefore into the laymen lives.

Our brief included that the pavilion must be inspired by an octagon. A shape which is part of the plan of Frere hall as well as the landscaping of the park it sits in. The piece had to be dismantle-able, so as to be movable and had to be cost effective as the budget was tight.
Constructions Materials:
Steel scaffolding for Structure - easy to dismantle
Cement board flooring - water resistant
Poly carbonate sheet - roof shelter
locally made woven bamboo blinds called "chiks"- roof aesthetics and enclosure
