Well | Water Conservation System

Well is a home water conservation system that teaches people how to use their household water more efficiently. Through seamless integration of hardware and software, Well collects accurate data to educate users about the realities of water consumption in their homes in a beautiful, yet intuitive way.  Matter (Design) and Mind Tribe (Engineering) teamed up to tackle this problem.

The system is comprised of a network of self powered sensors and smart fixtures that monitor flow rate. We chose to focus on the showerhead smart fixture because it’s one of the largest consumption offenders in the home. All information from the sensors and smart fixtures is fed via Wi-Fi to a mobile app, which collates daily, weekly, monthly, and annual use from individual units and the collective system.
Well’s app represents a beautiful blue landscape that changes into an arid desert as the user approaches their daily recommended quota. This visual metaphor allows for immediate comprehension of where they are within their daily goal. Taking a deeper dive into the app allows the user to easily identify what fixture is the largest water waster, and change their habits accordingly. By introducing individual and community achievements Well connects, evangelises and motivates the Well Community by illustrating their cumulative conservation impact.
