About the Artiste
Joanna Ien-xin Tan was born in Kuala Lumpur and grew up in Malaysia, England, and India. Shestarted dancing at the age of 4 under the Royal Academy of Dance ballet syllabus. At age 12, shestopped ballet to concentrate on artistic gymnastics and music performance. It was notuntil the age of 17 that she started to pursue dance seriously. Having startedher first year as a Psychology major at a Malaysian university, she was given asecond chance at dance when she was accepted to Belhaven University (Jackson,Missisippi, USA) with a scholarship in 2009. In 2011, she graduated cum laudewith a Bachelor of Arts in Dance.
Joanna has performed in Malaysia with The Federal Academy ofBallet, ACTS School of Performing Arts and Short and Sweet Dance Festival. Sheis blessed to have performed abroad with The PGK Dance Project (San Diego, CA);Belhaven Dance Ministry Ensemble (Jackson, MS), Leon Dance Arts New York, NBCnetwork’s “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon” (New York, NY); and Ad Deum DanceCompany (Houston, TX). Recently, she was a guest teacher for Youth With AMission, Tuen Mun (Hong Kong).
Joanna is currently in her first season as a company member withAd Deum II in Houston, Texas (USA) and also, is a ballet and ballroominstructor. When not dancing, she enjoys playing various musical instrumentsand dabbling in photo/video production.
“I would love to see dance become an appreciated art formand respected career path in Malaysia. I hope to give back to our country byinspiring other Malaysian dancers to pursue their passion with excellence– haveno limitations!”
About our Project
"PEOPART" (People & Art) is an on going collaborative art project between Ariff Aris & Darshen Chelliah. The theme "PEOPART" concentrates on the collection of people / artists who use their body to convey an artistic expression. This collection is to capture pure beauty, passion, motion and emotion of the Artist through through the eyes of the photographer.
This is my 6th series to my art project collection. Hope you like it
