2016 Fashion - Student Work with Zama Phungula

Student Collaboration between Photography and Fashion. The goal is to create a fashion Layout worthy of a magazine. I worked with Zama Phungula a 3rd year Textiles Student at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University.

Words From:

Zama Phungula Before I even had any idea as to how I wanted my range to look, one thing I did know is that I wanted it to be proudly African. So read a book called When Rain Clouds Gather by South African author Bessie Head. We are in times where people are no longer proud of being African with all the conflict and political chaos plaguing the continent.

Being a person who focuses on the positive, this negative mind-set has begun to frustrate me. So in an attempt to remind people of the beauty of Africa, my range will consist of various products inspired by or depicting various African landscapes. I am proudly African regardless of what is happening in my country, because I choose to see the beauty in it.
I want my range to, if even for a split second, remind people of the positive as opposed to the negative. My job from this point forward is convey my understanding of this book through my collection using Africa as my untouchable and landscapes and craft as my elements. If I am successful in reminding people of Africa’s beauty through my range.
