A major problem we face today is the lack of encouragement of self expression, and the fact that self expression is often looked down upon and made fun of. While, in fact, self expression, along with personal interactions, are known to be one of the key factors to leading a stress free life.
In our busy urban lives, we forget our humane needs for emotion and experiences. This is where Macrocosm comes in. Macrocosm is a space that aims to provide a short break in the middle of the deadly cycle of city-living. It provies space for interaction, self expression, and an experience that will make an impactful, positive difference in an individual's day.
I believe in small and individualistic change; we can't change the whole world at once. But if we manage to make one person feel happy or content for a breif moment, and make that person experience something new, that is change.
The awareness of importance of public art in Cairo is increasing - and so is the understanding of the need for creativity and creating interactive platforms. The room project should be tested over and over again untill it's made available and suitable for everyone - with all the societal differences. Urban life is deadly, and breaks are always needed, in whichever form they come in, as long as they do. Priorities need to be set, and individuals need to understand the power of public art and the power of self expression, and encourage both.
