Celtic Thegn Scroll
This scroll was another award given to a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism, and was created on a piece of leather vellum, in order to obtain the most authentic possible recreation of a manuscript page from the 9th century in the British Isles.

Period pigments were used to color the quilled ink line work. Since the original piece of vellum was not square, I sewed a corner section on with sinew just as the monks would have done in a monastery so that their scriptoral book pages could be easy turned without accidently skipping a page.

The style of this work was patterned after illustrations in the 9th century Book of Kells, and the riders across the top represent four of the recipient's friends.
