Morelli Design Services - Visual Identity System
This is my personal visual identity system including logo and some standard pieces like a business envelope, letterhead and logo/wordmark.

I put a great deal of thought and care into my own visual identity and especially enjoyed the process of coming up with a logo symbol, wordmark, and visual branding that was relatively simple yet packed full of meaning to represent me to the world.

I wanted my logo to reflect my professionalism, my stability and steadfast nature, my meticulous and analytical nature, the value of myself and my work, and I wanted anybody who viewed it to get “designer” from it loud and clear. I considered everything from what makes me who I am, to the tools I use when I’m designing, to the way others have described me when considering what sort of shapes, colors, and imagery would best represent me.
I've actually re-designed my business card since to pull information away from the corners, make it cleaner, and give better contrast between elements.
Logo & Wordmark Design
My logo shape is remniscent of a gem to convey my value. It is geometric to reflect my love of organization, structure and stability.  The incorporation of a ruler and a grid not only reflect that I am a designer, but are my favorite tools whether I’m working in digital or analog. The colors represent my professionalism and stability, my friendly nature, my passion, and my earthy-ness (without using “green” which would be too easy and a bit over-done).

I've done away with using the lockup above on my business card in favor of using my name instead, but the typeface remains. The typeface I chose was Industry by FortFoundry, because the geometric shapes with some rounding worked in works very well next to my similarly geometric but rounded logo symbol, because it looks both old-school industrial era and space-age appropriate, because I just plain like the way it looks, and most importantly because the personality and name of the typeface fit something that I feel describes me perfectly, "industrious," meaning hard-working and diligent.

That's me to a T!
Abstraction
I devised an abstraction of my logo in order to add some artistic but structured flair and create something for the eye to contemplate. I think this reflects me very well because though I am somewhat artistic, I am dominantly organizational and structured. The pieces of the abstraction also serve a functional purpose in my letterhead, providing guidelines for quickly folding the page into thirds and fourths. (I love that sort of thing.)
