Dhokra - Craft Cluster Hazaribagh, Jharkhand

Craft Cluster, Hazaribagh Jharkhand

Objective: The craft cluster initiative of the institute is a carefully developed formula for integrating the craft sector of the country with the stream. The aim of this cluster is to understand the craft thoroughly along with the living conditions of the artisan and experiencing the effort and dedication which is engraved by them, which results in remarkable art.

Dhokra Art: Dhokra  is non–ferrous metal casting using the lost-wax casting technique. This sort of metal casting has been used in India for over 4,000 years and is still used.

We did craft visit in 2016 and understood the craft, the community & socio-economic ethos of the Dhokra craft. We observed the regional essence, motifs, process and artisans problems and documented the communication systems, channels & media for the craft and later developed logos for the brand identity and promotion.
