New York Giants Make Jason Pierre-Paul Their Franchise

A graduate of Phillipsburg High School in New Jersey, Andrew "Drew" Horun competed on the school’s wrestling team. In addition to his interest in wrestling, Andrew Horun follows several local sports teams, including the New York Giants.

Recently, the Giants made Jason Pierre-Paul their franchise player for the second time in the last three seasons. With this move, the Giants have extended their options with the two-time Pro Bowler, who was set to become a free agent. The team has until July 15 to come to an agreement with Pierre-Paul on a long-term contract. As per NFL rules, if the team doesn’t reach a contract agreement by this date, Pierre-Paul must play the 2017 season under the conditions of the franchise tender.

In the meantime, Pierre-Paul can seek bids from other teams, but the Giants have the right to match any offers. If he accepts an offer from another franchise, the Giants will then receive two first-round draft picks.

Although Pierre-Paul missed the final stretch of the 2016 campaign, he ended the year with seven sacks, three forced fumbles, and 53 tackles. Over the course of his career with the Giants, he has recorded 50 tackles, the seventh-highest figure in the team’s history.
