Ramadan is a month of blessing, marked by prayer, fasting, and charity. As in the rest of the Muslim countries in the world Kurdistan celebrates Ramadan with the usual traditions of fasting, and Iftar.
In Ramadan, families in Kurdistan get together every Iftar, even if they are not fasting, to eat and socialize. There is another tradition where people go for walks late at night until suhour, many visit the ice-cream shops and dessert shops.
Every year there are different TV shows on TV and many different competitions with several different prizes. Families watch these shows together and many people participate in these competitions. These activities become the talk of the town
There are also on ground competitions and games, usually in the malls, people participate in these competitions more than they would if it was on a normal day and not Ramadan. Sometimes companies or TV channels go around and ask people questions and if their answer is correct they get prizes.
All in all, Ramadan in Kurdistan is the month where people come together, it is the month where all the energy is focused on Ramadan with no politics.
