CAMINO - 830 km walk

The Camino de Santiago, also known Way of St. James is one of the most important pilgrimage routes. Originally the main route was Roman and it ended at the Atlantic coast of Galicia, at Cape Finisterre. The Romans called it Finisterrae which meant the end of the world. Many stories and legends are about the route, but there is one common, that the body of St. James has been brought from Jerusalem to northern Spain. It has been buried there, where Santiago de Compostela is located now. Today more than a hundred thousand people walk until there each year.

My story began by reading a book about it which called my attention. With the time passing my interest increased and I felt that I had to go. So I decided that I will do it. We've started in July, together with my boyfriend, on the North way, not far from the French border, in San Sebastian. We walked through the beautiful scenery of the Basque Country then we turned to the French way, also known Camino Francés. We went to Santiago de Compostela and then until Finisterre.
We walked 830 km in 26 days. Each day between 30-40 km, without planning, and with minimal clothes and accessories. What we’ve felt was freedom. Many people walk this route because of religious reasons, or to get answers or to find a direction, a purpose in their lives or just simply because they want adventure. I cannot tell you why I’ve started or what did I expect, but I know that now I feel something more. I’ve learned to be happy for all those little things which are often not realized in life, especially nowadays. I’ve seen beautiful places, I’ve met wonderful people from all over the world. I became richer with valuable experiences, friends and kindness.

I’d like to share my experiences with those who are interested through photos I’ve made on the way.
