UPD: I added the animation with new look. Enjoy!
Hi all!
This work was inspired by artist Simon Stalenhag, whose deserted landscapes with semi-ruined futuristic objects are breathtaking to me.
The main attraction of Simon's works, I think, is a strange balance between organic and mechanical parts. In my work the giant green eye is an organic part, but it is not known, if this is an alien or just a mechanical structure.
The second part of this work is the landscape. I was inspired by USA’s red canyons, especially Colorado National Monument.
I started with already existing models of the soviet "Energia" rocket and the "Buran" spaceplane. Then I replaced the rocket with my own model of a futuristic creation I made in ZBrush.
For this work I learned three programs: ZBrush, World Machine and Mari. It was an inspiring for me to open new horizons, because I haven’t been working with 3d modeling for a long time, only with an animation and a visualisation.
Most objects and the sky, except the car and plants, were created by me.
As you can see, initially I decided to use an existing model of rocket and an automatically generated landscape, but then I made a choice to use my own models for almost everything. So I removed the rocket and added the giant black egg, which became a high detailed model of an alien in next iterations. Also I changed the sky often. Lot of work took rocks, which required a properly modelling and texturing.
The early version of the creature I created, it was my first experience in ZBrush:
Here is an unused version of rock:

Thank you!
