Woman's World magazine website redesign

Below is the home page before it was redesigned. Mainly a page for readers to enter sweepstakes from the magazine, we also needed the site as a place for readers to download bonus material related to what they read in the printed issue. It was relegated as small, hard-to-read buttons on the left, and was limited to only showing the three most recent posts.

User goals:
• Enter contests
• Find bonus content that was mentioned in the magazine
• Contact the magazine (e.g. subscriptions, back issues, recipes)
Usable to someone who is unfamiliar with the internet (majority of readers)

Stakeholder goals:
• Increase traffic
• Continue to allow prominence of ads and sweepstakes
• Work on tablet and mobile devices as a responsive site
Old home page
New home page
The new home page is divided into thirds, to make it responsive to mobile. One column is for bonus editorial, one is for sweepstakes, and one is for ads and to promote the current issue's cover.

User goals:
• Enter contests -- still prominent on page
• Find bonus content that was mentioned in the magazine -- large column with easier to read text and photos, and can click for more
• Contact the magazine (e.g. subscriptions, back issues, recipes) -- featured twice to help readers find it who are uncomfortable scanning page
• Usable to someone who is unfamiliar with the internet (majority of our readers)

Stakeholder goals:
• Increase traffic -- traffic doubled within the first month
• Continue to allow prominence of ads and sweepstakes -- featured prominently in the middle of the page
• Work on tablet and mobile devices as a responsive site -- square images and columns resized on smaller screens
Secondary page for editorial content
Visual design changes were to match the style of the printed magazine. The editor-in-chief describes it as "pretty, feminine, and cute." of the magazine. Pink was added as the primary color, with the logo and background to have small design elements that would change with the season (here, snowflakes with the logo and a winter blue background).
Old page with editorial content
The old article page was a full-page clickable jpeg that downloaded a PDF of the pattern to print out.
New page with editorial content
The new article page was HTML with photos and text, with a link to open the downloadable PDF of the pattern to print out. Also added was a "most popular" column on the left to increase user engagement and traffic.
