The Merchant of Venice: Grassroots Company Poster

I was commissioned by the Grassroots Shakespeare Company in Orem, Utah to create a poster for their most recent production of "The Merchant of Venice." Their productions are very bare bones staging-wise, and they heavily seek the audience’s involvement during the show. In short, they're a ton of fun to watch!

Overall, I was going for a simplified emblematic approach that could sum up the conflict/themes of the show. The productions are always a blast (even the tragedies), so I also didn't want the poster to take itself too seriously. But it still needed something dramatic and eye catching. The pop colors are a hold over from some of the awesome work a prior artist had done for them during their last season. The intent was to keep it recognizable as a Grassroots production, but also fresh.

A special thank you to Tano Veron who allowed me to use his amazing type face, Bardo, for the title treatment! You can check out this and other great fonts on his page here:
