[REBRANDING] Atenean Car Enthusiasts

In the last recruitment week for unaccredited orgs, ACE came across problems trying to recruit members. So much so, in fact, that they made promos that literally said “yes, there is a car org in school”. Surely, it’s meant to be tongue-in-cheek, but what was ACE missing that it came to this?

ACE already has loyal members. They may have an inactive Facebook page, and a nearly non-existent internet presence, but they exist. While current members enjoy a certain sense of brotherhood through the time they share together in celebration of cars, what then should they be doing now to attract new members? This was the question I asked in creating this rebrand. My rebrand of the Atenean Car Enthusiasts aims to attract car lovers from the Loyola Schools community who are 1) looking for like-minded individuals, and 2) are not part of the org, or have not heard of it yet.

Car culture is all about branding in the most literal sense. Illest, Ralli Art, Fatlace, Castrol. These are names that find themselves brandished on stock race cars, as an element in an elaborate sticker bomb, and even on the back of ordinary cars. Car clubs are no exception either: the Innova, Patrol, and the Benz clubs all have logos to establish one’s membership into this “exclusive clique”. That said, I wanted to do the same for ACE by first creating an emblem that 1) related to different types of car enthusiasts, and 2) was not too obvious in showing its “car-ness” (i.e.: no wheels, steering wheels, etc.)
