Free simple tool for font designers
When it is time to draw all the letters for our new font, we - font designers - usually draw down the basic lines first. Just to ensure that all the letters will have the exact same baseline, x-height, cap height, ascender, descender, and the slant angle. This simple tool allows you to type in the values and generate the template.
Ascender and descender are fixed values whereas the other values are expresse proportionally regarding the highest point - ascender. Each of three inputs for lines can take values from 0 to 100 (0% meaning that the line is at the top and 100% meaning that the line is at the bottom). The slant angle can take values from -45° to 45° and is expressed regarding the vertical line.
You can select from already prepared templates, name your font, select the color of the lines, and letters style to see the preview (note that the letters are not included in the template). You can download your template by clicking the button "Download PDF".
The generated template can be also used as a calligraphy practice sheet.
