Describing an object through language creates fuzzy multi-image of what this object might be. A world of approximation and ambiguity lies between verbal description and meaning. Given that everyday situations, objects, tasks are very often presented as a written text or oral description, it is interesting to see how far the world of language and imagination are in relation to each other. Goal of this project was to explore this gap of blurriness created by reinterpretation and to create a space for reflection on ambiguity in communication.
As a final task each student was given a text describing a building without any information concerning its source or general purpose. We had to analyze it and create a model our mental image of this building. We could use any media we want – 3D, sketches, drawings, film, collage, model, etc.
First model of the imagined building.
The human body is architecture, a structure which has its own language in time and space. The text also has a body – it is a closed unit which describes a landscape, building, light in a specific atmosphere and mood. The connotations which the concepts "text", "building" and "body" create lead us to the idea to put the text on stage and show it through the language of the body. But having in mind that the understanding of any concept, building, text or even of our own selves is a process, it is motion, we decided to use not only fixed gestures but to create a dance choreography.
