Whenwe came upon the problematic of designing a new bench for Athens, we did notponder on how to design yet another bench for a populated metropolis, butrather on how we could reevaluate and think over the idea of a bench in thegiven city. Thinking in contemporaryterms, considering the evolving lifestyle in Athens, the need for a newtypology of public space, we concluded in a modular design: a cost-efficient highresistance concrete slab reinforced with fiber glass, easily producible in bignumbers and with the liberty to adjust to the given space, as the slabs areheld together with prestressed cords, thus creating a multitude ofdifferent spaces to be diversified according to the given topology and,finally, used in many ways by the final user, the citizen. This liberty extends to the colour of eachslab, its 4-way orientation, and its material, resulting in a pool of infinitecombinations.
