The design brief for this prei dieu (prayer kneeler) was that it be non-traditional in appearance, employ curves, and not have a closed-in, boxy feel to it. The materials are bubinga and curly maple.
Removing a brass pin allows the upholstered frame to be lifted off the kneeler revealing a small storage compartment beneath it.
The upholstered frame can be lifted off revealing a small storage box beneath it.
This image shows the double mortise and tenon joints that hold the side sections together.
Mortise and tenon joinery was used throughout the construction of the prei dieu.
