Ash & Tarmac: TRIPtych, Pt1

From here to there, for this, and back.
A triptych of a trip to Nice in France. Planned to fly; had to drive.
This is a story in pictures about what happens when a cloud of volcanic ash gets in the way of a shoot's travel logistics.
On the weekend after the Eyjafjallajökull eruption I had to decide whether to wait to see if my flight went on Tuesday or plan to drive on Monday. I decided the risk was too great. If the flight was cancelled at 7AM the day of the flight -the time frame operated by the Eurocontrol- I'd not get to Nice on time. So I drove.
I left home on Monday at 6AM with 902 miles ahead of me.

This is the first set in the triptych. It shows the rapid course of transit, hurried shots taken from or around my car as I gradually ate up the miles. The second set will be personal shots from the conference I was shooting in Nice, decimated by the travel chaos, and the third set is from the slower journey home on the weekend after.

The shots are all in chronological order.
